The South African National Revenue Service said that the tire anti-dumping investigation launched in January this year is still ongoing. The decision to impose additional temporary tariffs came after the initial phase of its investigation had concluded.Interested parties have 14 days from the date of the preliminary report to submit written comments. The results of the final phase of the department's investigation will be released by July 31, 2023.

At present, South Africa has a tariff base of 25% to 30% on Chinese tire products. The South African Tire Importers Association said that the imposition of tire tariffs would have a devastating blow to prices.

The Tyre Importers Association of South Africa (TIASA) will begin legal proceedings against the South African Revenue Service (SARS) to overturn a decision by the International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) to impose provisional anti-dumping duties on tyres imported from China.
